Happy Friday! I hope everyone has a wonderful, safe holiday weekend. ❤️🤍💙
This morning’s harvest was small, but everything is growing nicely! The cucumbers are bursting with flowers and I spied lots of green tomatoes. Hopefully we’ll be able to open the stand in the next couple of weeks. 🤞🏻
It’s an exciting day here…..we are installing our new pool! Send good vibes that all goes well! 🥰

Quick pickling is my favorite way to preserve small harvests. These all use the same base brine, but have different herbs/spices depending on preference.
Canning can be labor intensive, but quick pickling requires no special equipment- these go straight into the refrigerator after they cool a bit….and you can use any glass jar with a lid! A week of wait time and you can crack them open to enjoy!

Cucamelons! Have you heard of them?

This is one of our favorite things to grow. These little babies are a Mexican sour gherkin. They look like a mini watermelon and taste like a cucumber with a little hint of citrus.

They grow to be the size of a grape and are delicious fresh or pickled. Pickled cucamelons make a perfect addition to relish trays and charcuterie boards….and they’re a great conversation starter! I love when someone asks, “What are those?” 😉

When will I learn that “just checking the garden” ALWAYS requires a basket?? 😆🥦

My nemesis….the squash bug. 😖 I battle these pests year after year and they always wreak havoc. They look like stink bugs and lay little football shaped eggs.
This year I’ve been trying to keep the lowest leaves of the squash and zucchini trimmed and have tied the plants up off the ground. Hopefully they don’t cause too much damage this season.
If so….at least I was able to harvest two zucchini today! 😉
