🏔️ May in the Springs: Is Your Landscape Thirsty?

☀️ The sun is out, and while we’ve had some recent moisture, the "abnormally dry" winter has left our soil parched.

If you haven't turned your irrigation on yet, now is the time. At Summit View Landscapes, we want your outdoor space to thrive, not just survive. Here is why you need to get that water moving:

🌳 Don't Forget the Trees & Shrubs!
Your lawn isn't the only thing that's thirsty. After a dry winter, trees and shrubs are working hard to push out new growth.

Deep Root Hydration: Established trees need a deep soak to prevent root stress and die-back.

Evergreen Care: Our Colorado pines and spruces lose moisture through their needles all year—they need a big drink to stay vibrant!

New Plantings: If we installed plants for you last season, they are especially vulnerable right now and need consistent water to finish establishing their roots.

💡 Pro-Tip: Check your mulch beds! A fresh layer of mulch helps retain that precious moisture and keeps root temperatures stable as we head into the heat of summer.

Your yard is thirsty and hungry! Fertilize followed with deep watering!

Please Note: Summit View Landscapes specializes in design and installation; we do not offer irrigation activation. We recommend calling your favorite sprinkler tech ASAP, as May is their busiest month!

# # 🏗️ Built to Brave the Rockies! 🏔️
Progress is looking incredible on our latest project! In Colorado, a patio is only as good as what’s underneath it. That’s why we don't just "lay pavers"—we engineer outdoor spaces to last a lifetime.

**Why this patio is Colorado-proof:**

* **12-Inch Minimum Base:** While others cut corners, we dig deep to ensure a rock-solid foundation.

* **Open Grade Design:** Specialized drainage to keep water moving where it should.

* **Geotextile Reinforcement:** High-strength fabric to keep the layers stable and prevent sinking.

* **Belgard Pavers & Polysand:** Premium aesthetics finished with high-performance sand for a locked-in fit.

From **heavy clay heave** to our brutal **freeze-thaw cycles**, this patio is built to handle everything Colorado tosses at it. No shifting, no cracking—just perfection. ☀️❄️

**📍 Serving Colorado Springs, Falcon, Black Forest, Monumen]**

Moving mountains (or at least really heavy trees) 🌲⛰️

Planting a mature tree is tough enough, but adding steep hills and beautiful stone walls into the mix requires serious precision.

In this behind-the-scenes look, our crew is using our high-access mini skid steers to carefully maneuver a heavy tree up the slope. One machine manages the staging from the driveway, while the other does the heavy lifting on the hill. It’s all about working smarter and protecting your property while delivering top-tier results.

Winter Storm Alert, Colorado Springs Gardeners!

A spring storm is rolling in (because… Colorado ), and it’s time for a quick garden check-in!
First things first—STEP AWAY FROM THE TARPS

We know it feels like the right move, but wrapping canopies of established trees and shrubs can actually do more harm than good.
👉 Tarps + heavy snow = extra weight
👉 Extra weight = increased risk of snapped limbs

The truth? Your established plants are tougher than they look—let them ride it out naturally.

Evergreens need a little help though 👇
If snow starts piling up:
✨ Gently brush it off
✨ Start from the bottom and push UP
This helps release snow without adding pressure to already weighed-down branches (aka… fewer broken limbs ).

❄️ Quick recap:
✔️ Leave deciduous trees & shrubs uncovered
✔️ No tarping canopies
✔️ Gently brush snow off evergreens (bottom → up!)

Stay warm, stay safe, and let your plants do what they were built to do

These trees have been in the ground for 10 years and little to no root structure, very little growth. As we're replacing the trees we will make sure to mound the tree for drainage in the heavy clay soil, soil amendments and proper planting techniques!

THIS IS IMPORTANT! Very high chances of seeing major issues this summer on our trees.

💧🌳 TIME TO DRENCH!! 🌳💧

If you want to protect your trees from boring insects (not pine bark beetles), now is the time to act. A systemic drench is one of the best ways to protect your trees from the inside out—but timing matters.

🌿 Established / older trees:
The bigger the tree, the slower the uptake. It can take months for the product to move through the tree and reach new growth—right where insects attack. 👉 The sooner you apply, the better your protection.

🌱 Younger trees:
They move faster! We recommend waiting until after bloom to apply your drench. This allows pollinators like honeybees to safely access pollen before treatment—then you’re protecting your tree before harmful insects move in. 🐝

⚠️ Important reminders:
• Always follow the label—this product is only for its intended use
• Misuse can result in Department of Ag penalties
• 🚫 Do NOT use on linden trees—they are a critical nectar source for pollinators and need protection

Protect your trees. Protect your pollinators. Do it the right way.

Concrete or Pavers??

We get asked this all the time, here’s the breakdown:

🔲 Concrete: Great for a sleek, modern look and generally more cost-effective upfront.

🧱 Pavers: Incredible "wow" factor and durability.

Wait, didn't we just have our shorts on? Not on Sunday! 🏔️❄️

Only in Colorado! After this incredibly warm and dry week, Summit View Landscapes wants to make sure your yard is ready for Sunday's cold snap. Then 80 degree weather to immediately follow.

Our trees and plants are currently getting "tricked" into thinking it's spring, and those early buds are very sensitive to the low freezing temperatures coming our way. Dry roots only make this worse.

What you need to do:
💧 WATER NOW. Giving your trees and shrubs a deep soak before Sunday is the best way to protect them. Moist soil acts as an insulator and helps the plants handle the "freeze-thaw" stress.
💧 Focus on New Growth: If you’ve planted anything in the last year, they need extra attention!
💧 Disconnect Hoses: Remember to disconnect your hoses from the spigot after watering to prevent your pipes from freezing on Sunday night.

Pro-Tip: Water is your landscape's best defense! Hydrated roots are much more resilient to freezing temperatures than dry ones. Take advantage of the warmth today to give your trees, shrubs, and perennials a good drink. Next week follow up with another cycle of water!

Stay warm, stay hydrated (and keep your plants hydrated too!), and we'll see you on the other side of the snow! ❄️🏡

Doing it right the first time. 👊

We’re out on a new build today stacking block for a massive retaining wall. A lot of people ask what makes a wall last—it’s all about the prep. We’re installing a deep, compacted base and using geogrid to reinforce the soil behind the block.

It’s a lot of heavy lifting, but the peace of mind is worth it. Stay tuned to see the finished look!
