Here's how to get started:

First, locate the switch on your fan and change it to circulate in the clockwise direction. This forces the blades to push the air up helping to distribute heat (rather than down to create wind).

As the blades move, they draw air in from around the room and push it up toward the ceiling. The force of the air pushes air at the top of the room out toward the edges of the room. Then the air moves back down to the ground. Since heat rises, the air at the top of the room is warmer. As the air circulates the room begins to feel warmer and warmer.
