At Wang Electric, we know that quality comes down to the details. Taking the time to secure and protect cable properly does more than keep an installation organized. It helps prevent physical damage to cable sheathing and contributes to a safe, reliable electrical system.
A few installation reminders for the field:
1.) Follow support requirements. NM cable generally requires securing and supporting cable at intervals no greater than 4.5 feet and within 12 inches of boxes, cabinets, or fittings, subject to specified exceptions.
2.) Choose the right fastener. Use approved staples or other securing methods sized for the cable, taking care not to crush, pinch, or damage the sheathing.
3.) Protect cable at framing. Maintain required setbacks from framing edges and install steel protective plates where required to prevent nails and screws from damaging concealed wiring.
4.) Keep runs neat and accessible. Avoid unnecessary tension and sharp bends, and leave sufficient conductor length at outlet, junction, and switch points for proper connections and servicing.
Code compliance isn't just a requirement. It's the foundation of quality workmanship. Doing it right means getting the details right from the start.
