**NEW EPISODE ALERT - AARON MICHALENKO & WILLIS LONG**
AI can calculate where a property corner could be, but can it determine where that corner legally is…and would you stamp it?

In Episode 287 of The Geoholics, we sit down with Aaron M., owner of DBE Surveying, LLC, and Willis Long, Head of Survey Operations and Senior Director at CCI Systems Inc, to separate the real-world value of artificial intelligence from the hype.

We dig into how AI is already affecting point-cloud processing, feature extraction, boundary research, drafting, QA/QC, project administration, data security, workforce development, and the skills tomorrow’s geospatial professionals will need.

The biggest takeaway? AI can organize, compare, calculate, detect, and recommend, but the professional surveyor must still investigate, verify, evaluate, decide, and accept responsibility.

Of course, we also put some of the industry’s biggest AI claims through another round of “Bullsh*t, Breakthrough, or Too Soon to Tell?”

Will AI replace surveyors, or will surveyors who understand how to use AI responsibly replace those who refuse to adapt?

We're in the midst of some big shifts in the industry, but some things remain true: technology is going to change, but the learning curve won't.

Sean was highlighting a mantra he liked in Episode 284 with Alex Chose and and Taylor Shepley from NSPS Young Surveyors Network (YSN): "Ask better questions and be willing to listen."

This is how young surveyors will learn from the people who have paid tuition in mistakes, sweat, and time.

William adds the great Japanese secret to the conversation from there.

What’s one piece of advice from an old-timer that still sticks with you?

We've been talking a lot about , , and the future of the industry lately... both on and off the show.

One thing that remains clear in our conversations though, is that there is a need for human oversight and judgment.

It's hard to nail down the future when it comes to how AI will affect how we work, but human management and oversight is still necessary.

Hey , you know we are all about supporting the next generation of and introducing young people to this profession.

Today, Kurt is hosting a free webinar with the Western Federation of Professional Surveyors to explain how the Surveying Merit Badge works and, more importantly, how surveyors can get involved.

Kurt Lehnhardt has been actively involved in this effort through the NSPS Scouting America Subcommittee, which recently participated in the National Scouting Jamboree in West Virginia, teaching Scouts the Surveying Merit Badge.
