In 1961, architect Fred Guirey designed a series of cast-stone panels for the APS Administrative Building in Phoenix — a brise-soleil system wrapped in a custom motif of flames and lightning to symbolize the power and light APS brought to the city.

Six decades later, those same panels were headed for the landfill.

Using a crane, a forklift, and a flatbed truck, our our fabrication team The Guild coordinated and hauled away 95 panels — nearly 70,000 lbs of midcentury history. Since then, we’ve been restoring and reinstalling them across the Valley, giving Guirey’s work a second life:

📍 Elite Family Services (2023)
📍 Valentine PHX (2025)
📍 Original ChopShop (2025)
📍 Phoenix Country Club (2026)

Preserving the past, building for the future — one panel at a time.

Kelly Hatch joins our studio as Creative Director of Interior Architecture.

As a design-build practice, our work is realized through collective making—through the close exchange between design, material, fabrication, and construction. As we continue to expand our capacity at the tactile scale, Kelly brings greater depth and range to our approach to conceiving and building interior space.

Her work is grounded in the cultivation of intimate, atmospheric moments within the built and natural environment, where light, material, and time shape how space is felt and lived. Her presence brings greater depth, clarity, and continuity to the spaces we make.

It was an honor to have our Director of Sustainability, Kyle Fiano, AIA, take the stage at the Committee on the Environment (COTE) 9th Annual 1.5°C Symposium on Climate Change.

Held at Loyola Marymount University, this year’s symposium challenged us to look at the climate crisis through a lens of tangible action. Kyle’s presentation, “Resourceful Architecture: A Design-Build Practice of Material Stewardship,” explored the critical intersection of high design and low impact construction.

Sharing our process on such a significant stage was a privilege. It highlighted how we look for sustainable opportunities through repurposing, rethinking, and refining our design-build lifecycle.

A huge thank you to AIA Los Angeles (COTE) for hosting such an impactful dialogue.

The driver for the design of this residence in Durango, CO is to be fully immersed in a stunning 80-acre site crossed by a river, a creek, an incredible diversity of fauna and flora. The living spaces are thought as nature observatories, focused on close views to the stunning aspen grove and down towards the river and the natural ponds created by an active beaver family.
