Five years ago, Larry Wilson walked into PHP Commercial Painting fresh out of prison, with no tools and no guarantees.

After his first day, I saw him waiting at the bus stop and remember thinking:

“This guy’s not going to make it.”

I was wrong.

Larry went on to work 78 straight days without taking a single day off.

He learned the trade. He listened. He took criticism. He made mistakes and learned from them. He became a sponge around people who knew more than he did.

Today, at 53 years old, he still outworks guys half his age.

But this story is bigger than painting.

Larry battled incarceration and addiction. Today he's sober, reunited with his family, mentoring others, training our next generation of leaders, and has become one of the most trusted working superintendents at PHP Commercial Painting.

This week's episode of Workforce Skills is one I'm incredibly proud of.

We talk about second chances, addiction, sobriety, accountability, leadership, family, work ethic—and what it actually takes to change your life.

Larry lives by one simple philosophy:

PUSH — Pray Until Something Happens.

Then he looks in the mirror and reminds himself:

You can be better.
You're going to do better.
Keep pushing forward.
