Yesterday, members of the AIA Arizona Committee on the Environment (COTE) and AZASLA gathered for a guided urban ecology hike through Scottsdale’s Indian Bend Wash, exploring how landscape can serve as infrastructure, habitat, and a vibrant public amenity all at once. 🌿

Led by urban ecology experts, the walk highlighted the principles behind this innovative landscape, from nature-based infrastructure and flood resilience to the power of multifunctional design. We reflected on how designing with water and working alongside ecological systems can create places that are more resilient, accessible, connected, and enjoyable for all.

A special thank you to our hike facilitators: Dr. Dan Childers, ASU School of Sustainability and Urban Ecologist Harry Cooper, Director of Water Conservation Innovation for the Arizona Water Innovation Initiative (AWII) Luke Ramsey, PhD Student, School of Sustainability at ASU.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this opportunity to learn, connect, and experience the possibilities of landscape-led design!
