β›ˆοΈ RACING MOTHER NATURE! WILL THE GNF CREW BEAT THE STORM? 😳🌳

10/29/2026

β›ˆοΈπŸŒ³ JUST ANOTHER DAY TRYING TO BEAT MOTHER NATURE! πŸ’ͺπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The GNF Crew was hard at work today, but it looks like Mother Nature had other plans! 😳

With dark storm clouds rolling in, the guys were doing their best to get as much accomplished as possible before the weather turned ugly.

🌳πŸͺš One thing about working outdoors in Northern Indiana… you never know what the weather is going to throw at you!

And when you’re working with chainsaws, heavy equipment, and trees, keeping an eye on changing weather conditions is especially important.

⚑ Getting the job done is important, but getting everyone home safely is ALWAYS the priority!

Sometimes you beat the storm. Sometimes Mother Nature wins! πŸ˜‚

πŸ‘€ Who else was watching those nasty-looking clouds roll through today? Did you get much rain or wind where you’re at?

Drop your location in the comments! β›ˆοΈπŸ‘‡

🌳😳 WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON INSIDE THAT TREE?

Another tree removal for the GNF Crew, and another opportunity to show you something most people never get to see!

A tree can look perfectly normal on the outside while a completely different story is developing inside. πŸ‘€

πŸ„ DID YOU KNOW?

Wood-decaying fungi can slowly break down the interior of a tree over many years.

🌳 As the wood deteriorates, cavities can develop, sometimes leaving large portions of the trunk hollow.

πŸƒ And here’s what surprises many people: A tree can continue producing leaves even with significant internal decay!

⚠️ Does that mean every hollow tree needs to come down?

Absolutely not!

Some hollow trees can remain standing for many years. What matters is the extent and location of the decay, how much sound wood remains, and the tree’s overall structural condition.

That’s why understanding what’s happening INSIDE a tree is just as important as looking at what’s happening outside.

πŸͺš Another interesting day with the GNF Crew!

πŸ’¬ Have you ever cut into a tree and been surprised by what you found inside? We’d love to hear your stories!

🌳😳 IT STILL HAD LEAVES… BUT LOOK WHAT WAS HIDING INSIDE!

Remember that incredibly hollow tree we shared the other day?

Here’s the GNF Crew removing it in Warsaw, Indiana, using our Platform Spider Lift! πŸ’ͺ

🌳 Here’s something many homeowners don’t realize:

A tree can continue producing leaves even when much of its trunk is severely decayed.

WHY? πŸ€”

πŸƒ The living tissues responsible for transporting water and nutrients are located primarily toward the outside of the trunk.

πŸ„ Fungi can slowly break down the inner wood over many years.

⚠️ As decay progresses, the tree can lose structural strength while still appearing green and healthy from the outside.

And here’s the important part: Not every hollow tree needs to be removed. The extent of decay, remaining sound wood, and overall structure all matter.

This particular tree had extensive internal decay, as you can see from the pictures we shared earlier!

πŸ’¬ Have you ever seen a tree that was almost completely hollow but still growing leaves?

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸͺš KEEPING THE TRADES ALIVE! πŸ’ͺ

In a world increasingly driven by technology and AI, it’s great to see the younger generation getting their hands dirty and learning a trade!

Just two short years ago, our son was learning how to climb trees. Today, he’s not only climbing and working with the GNF Crew, but he’s also expanding his skills by learning how to repair and rebuild chainsaws! πŸ”§πŸŒ³

His first rebuild project?

πŸ”₯ A STIHL 066 getting a 56mm big-bore cylinder and piston kit!

There’s something pretty rewarding about taking a machine apart, understanding how it works, and learning how to put it back together.

These are skills that can’t be replaced by watching a video or sitting behind a screen. They take patience, practice, and a willingness to learn.

We’re proud to see him continuing to challenge himself and build skills that will serve him for years to come!

πŸ’¬ Who else grew up learning to work on engines, equipment, or machinery? What was the first thing you ever tore apart and rebuilt?

🌳😳 What’s hiding INSIDE that tree?

Take a good look at this picture! πŸ‘€

Believe it or not, a tree can be almost completely hollow on the inside while still standing tall and even producing leaves!

🌳 How does this happen?

Over time, fungi and other decay organisms can break down the wood inside a tree. This process can take years or even decades, often without obvious signs from the outside.

πŸͺ΅ Here’s something interesting:

A tree’s living tissues are primarily located just beneath the bark. That means a tree can continue growing leaves and branches even while its inner wood is severely decayed.

⚠️ Does hollow automatically mean dangerous?

Not necessarily! Some hollow trees can remain standing for many years. What matters is how much sound wood remains, where the decay is located, and the structural loads the tree must support.

But extensive decay can significantly weaken a tree, especially during high winds, heavy snow, or ice storms.

🌳 The takeaway: A tree looking healthy and green doesn’t always mean it’s structurally sound. And a hollow tree isn’t automatically a dead tree!

πŸ“Έ This is an actual tree the GNF Crew recently worked on. Just look at how little solid wood remained around parts of that trunk!

πŸ’¬ Have you ever seen a tree this hollow? Would you have guessed it from looking at the outside?
