One of the largest spring heads, I’ve came across. Property drops off into a swamp along the side of a ridge of hills. Grass will cover the exposed rock in a summer or two. This area stayed wet all year around making mowing extremely tough. Regularly getting the mower stuck with tow straps deployed. Which is not what most would expect on the side of a hill. A perfectly placed French drain dried the area very quickly. Above average no doubt.

This home had issues with rain runoff from the roof & yard washing under the home. Erosion & standing water under a home is terrible. 6 galvanized topped catch basins with all pipe under the rock being corrugated/perforated turning the space into a huge French drain. System discharges down the hill through 2 six inch discharges & collects water above & below grade. As always, a great picture sequence from start to finish.

Existing drainage system was having issues with soil intrusion. Cleaned out the French drain & applied fresh rock. Installed about 50 ft of landscape boarder to push loose soil down the hill where it will no longer be a problem. One of the few areas in Cenla with sandy hill tops.

The side of this home’s hill stayed wet year around. It had crawfish holes on a steep slope & backing all the way up the hill towards the foundation. I installed a deep French drain system gathering the water & used the natural grade to move that water down the hill. Unfortunately, about 1/2 a sack of Louisiana’s crawfish environment was destroyed during this project. So expect prices to remain high. Hills in Cenla are lime deficient. Adding lime can correct the imbalance for residential grasses. Bermuda grass seed was spread heavy.

Customer on a couple acre property had saturated soil issues along with sinkholes. Step one, we dug a trench to get the area draining, then ground up 10 stumps. Despite the trench & extended dry weather, the area refused to dry in the slightest. We had to have access on that side of the property to repair a series of sinkholes & gully washes, so we put out plywood to run equipment over. Despite the plywood, I was still sinking. At this point, I realized this was likely a spring head. Picked up plywood & rolled out geo-textile, then topped with gabion & railroad ballast limestone. Now with road in place, we cut a 250ft ditch down the side of the property to carry rain runoff & spring water to natural/city drainage. Re-purposed the clay from the ditch & filled in sinkholes that split the backyard into two sections. Geo-textile was laid 1st in the sinkholes to help keep the soil in place. Had 28 yards of soil hauled in to finish out grading & topping. Most of the limestone was pushed into the ground while moving material in & out. Area was then topped with soil to grade. On this side of the property you were unable to walk & now you can drive a truck. The front side of the property also had erosion issues with sinkholes. I collapsed the sink holes & cut a shallow ditch along the natural drainage. Laid geo-textile & topped with a gabion limestone base. Then topped with railroad ballast limestone for a smother surface. This area will slowly fill in with soil & grass will grow to cover the soil. Stone was installed where it could be mowed over. Last, everything was topped with an extra heavy seeding of rye-grass & erosion control measures were put in place.
