"What is an arborist?" I hear that question asked frequently after people ask what I do for work. Merriam-Webster defines an arborist as "a specialist in the care and maintenance of trees" yet ask any arborist and they will tell you there is much more behind it than that. Inside true arborists is a passion, not for the money, not for the glory, but for the reward. To look back at a tree that you helped to preserve is an experience unlike any other, one that cannot be understood until it is experienced. To know that you had a hand in preserving an organism that has lived longer than any human is a powerful feeling.
To bond human and nature together within an urban environment is a power few possess yet we do it on the daily. Increasing the beauty of your yard because we love it. This passion for nature ignites in us a love for our career that not many people are fortunate enough to have for their respective career. It is not uncommon for groups of arborists to get together on their days off to climb trees strictly for the recreational factor, if that doesn't show a love for work I don't know what does! So next time you are looking for tree work don't just call your local "tree cutter" take the time to find someone who holds the fervor for trees that your property deserves. Remember it takes hundreds of years to mature a tree but only a few hours to destroy that.
