Veterans and survivors can apply for PACT Act benefits online at VA.gov/PACT or by calling 1-800-MY-VA-411. To be eligible, veterans must meet the following criteria:
Served in certain areas, such as Afghanistan after 9/11
Have a service-connected ailment
Have a current diagnosis
Have a medical opinion linking their diagnosis to service
If the VA has previously denied a claim, veterans can use a supplemental claim form. They can also appeal a benefit determination at a local VA office using a supplemental claim form.
Veterans who are enrolled in VA health care can get a toxic exposure screening at any VA health facility. If they aren't enrolled, they can apply for VA health care. After the initial screening, veterans should receive follow-up screenings every five years.
As of March 5, 2024, veterans who were exposed to toxins while serving are eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without applying for VA benefits.
