The good news is that plenty of native Pennsylvania plants are already built for these conditions. Because they belong in the local landscape, they are often better adapted to the region’s soils, weather, and seasonal changes than fussier non-native options.

Don't forget — registration is now open for the statewide Pennsylvania Invasive Replace-ive Program.

Residents can participate by removing an invasive tree or shrub from your property or with permission from a property owner (e.g., park, library, school), taking a photo of the removed plant(s), and attending an event to receive a replacement tree or shrub, available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

To ensure the health of your trees, remember to mulch out, not up!

Mulch around trees should be no deeper thank the heel of your hand, generally 2-4 inches. Mulch less if soil is poorly drained or using finely textured mulch.
