ArtCentre of Plano

ArtCentre of Plano Inspire, support, & promote excellence, diversity, & innovation in the arts and arts education. The origins of the ArtCentre began in 1981.

It was founded as the Cultural Arts Council of Plano (CACOP), a private non-profit organization to promote the growth and development of emerging community arts groups. In 1982, JMB Management Company donated 1,400 square feet of space in the Collin Creek Mall to house CACOP. For the next ten years, this organization provided quality arts programming for the community in this location. On July 12,

1991, the CACOP purchased the Harrington Furniture Store, a 100-year-old landmark at 1039 E. 15th Street in historic downtown Plano. This two-story property was renovated into a community arts center. The City of Plano also announced its comprehensive long-term plan to revitalize the historic downtown and echoed the need “to establish the downtown area as a center for local arts and cultural activities.”

In 2010, the ArtCentre rented 901 18th Street after selling its building on 15th Street to Bedrock Building, LLP. After five years in this location, the ArtCentre board of directors determined it was time to find a permanent home. In 2015, the Cox Building at 1517 H Avenue became a temporary home for administrative offices while the City of Plano renovated the historic Saigling House and then leased it to the ArtCentre of Plano as an event and exhibition center. It has now become an affordable and popular venue available for rent by individuals, groups, businesses and organizations. Its location in beautiful and scenic Haggard Park makes it the perfect location for weddings, retreats, parties and meetings. In 2015, the Board of Directors of the ArtCentre of Plano embarked on an ambitious Capital Campaign to repay to the City of Plano a portion of the renovation costs and to maintain the Saigling House. The campaign continues, and with your financial support, the ArtCentre will be able to extend its legacy and remain a benefactor for the arts and culture in Plano and North Texas. Our Mission: The ArtCentre of Plano inspires, supports, and promotes excellence, diversity, and innovation in the arts and arts education in the community. Our Vision: To be a vital center of activity and a catalyst for art and culture.
