Now is the time to prepare your AC’s heater for the winter months.

In south florida , those with electric heat should have the dust cleaned from the heater element. If not, at first start up you will smell a burning smell like a fire. We get many calls in november from customers claiming their house may be on fire because if this. Also run your compressor periodically to keep it lubricated in winter. Twice a month is fine for 5 minutes.

In central & the north part of florida, those with heat pump heaters should have their coils cleaned as the flow of refrigerant is reversed using the coils to heat as well as the compressor in the unit. You may have electric heat as an emergency heat; if so clean the dust off the heater.
