The details make all the difference. While working on a customer’s new patio cover, we also refreshed their existing lattice. We removed the side plates and installed new plugs and end caps, giving the cover a clean, finished look—like new again.

Thank you to Champion Patio LLC for the assist with this lattice transformation!

PART TWO | FINISHED COVER

This is why we spend time getting the design right.

Our customer now has shade where she wanted to sit and enjoy her backyard, with lattice over the windows to keep natural light coming into the house.

The front fascia runs across the entire cover, concealing the rafter ends and giving the insulated and lattice sections one clean, modern look. And the white roof with the gray frame fits this house beautifully.

If you’re considering a patio cover, leave me a message. We’ll talk about what works for your home and how you want to use the space.

PART ONE | BEFORE

This backyard needed shade, but our customer didn’t want to lose the natural light inside her home.

We planned an insulated roof over the sitting area and lattice over the windows. Just as much thought went into how the cover would look on the house as it would be functional—a white roof, gray frame, and a continuous front fascia to give both sections the same clean finish.

In part two, we’ll show you how it all came together.

PART 2 — THE FINISHED COVER

From the footings to the final details—this 16’ x 44’ insulated patio cover is complete.

Built with double beams and four steel posts, this cover creates 704 square feet of comfortable, protected outdoor living space. Three ceiling fans keep the air moving, while four recessed can lights provide clean, functional lighting after the sun goes down.

Strong construction, a clean finished look, and a backyard that can now be enjoyed throughout the year.

PART 1 — FOOTINGS

A finished patio cover is only as strong as what’s underneath it.

This 16’ x 44’ insulated patio cover started with reinforced concrete footings engineered to support four steel posts. Here’s a look at the rebar and groundwork that will provide the strength and stability for this 704-square-foot outdoor space.

Next up: the finished cover.

CANTILEVER | PART 3 — THE FINAL REVEAL

Two posts at the back. Zero posts out front. A completely open poolside.

This is what the project was all about.

Supported by two posts set into engineered footings at the back, along with a ledger at the wall, this cantilever projects out over the patio with nothing underneath the front edge — keeping the poolside open, the walking path clear, and the view unobstructed.

We finished it off with one ceiling fan and LED lighting around all four sides, creating a clean, comfortable outdoor space during the day and a completely different atmosphere at night.

And there’s one final piece still to come — the outdoor bar is getting ready to go in and complete this backyard space.

No front posts. No interrupted sightlines. Just open covered outdoor living.

CANTILEVER | PART 2

Now you can see how this cantilever design comes together.

The two support posts are set into their footings at the back, the ledger provides additional support along the wall, and now we’re working our way across the roof of this Cantilever patio cover.

The result? The structure projects out over the patio while the entire front stays completely open.

No posts along the pool.

No obstacles in the walking path.

Just a clean, wide-open outdoor space with solid coverage overhead.

The roof is going on now, but the best part is still to come.

Next up: the finished reveal.

16’ × 16’ CANTILEVER | PART 1

Hard to believe these two footings will soon help support an entire 16’ × 16’ patio cover.

This project starts with two engineered footings positioned at the back of the patio. Combined with a ledger attached along the wall, this is what allows us to create the cantilever design — with absolutely no posts out front.

Once complete, the cover will project out over the patio while keeping the entire poolside open — no front posts blocking the walking path, interrupting the view, or taking away from the space.

Right now, it’s two footings and a plan.

Wait until you see what goes above them.
