As of mid last week, the 1870s barn residing project is complete!
No doubt it took me longer than expected to complete this job but with the some nasty weather days, a couple weeks of traveling with my other business and getting a couple other jobs complete and installed during this large job, I'd say for doing this job solo, everything went pretty darn smooth. And I only dropped a hammer twice out of the lift lol.
I am beyond grateful to be the one to reside this barn! When you hear 1870s, yes that was a long time ago, but when you realize that's 156 years, that just hits a little different! I am one who is always in awe of the true craftsmanship that went into these buildings. I mean, there's several 40 to 60 foot oak beams that were hand hewn with an axe and are amazingly true, straight and square! Thinking about the amount of time it had to take to complete that task is mind blowing. If these walls could talk!
I truly cannot thank the clients enough for reaching out and having me complete this work for them! I greatly greatly appreciate it!
I have another cool, fun and unique project at this same property later this summer along with a couple other tasks so be on the watch for that.
And as always, I appreciate you all following along! 🙂

After a long and successful weekend slinging turkey calls at the Open Seasons Sportsman's Expo in the Dells for my other business, Gobbler Ridge Calls, it was back to the grind today on the 1870s barn project which will be wrapped up in the coming days.
Built the new barn doors and they went up today. Tomorrow the doors will be faced and trimmed with the traditional X pattern. 🤙

Barn Project Update: Apologies for not doing the day to day updates but here we are. As of this evening, the siding on the south end of the barn is complete! Tomorrow I will be replacing some old boards that are in rough shape and then will be building the barn doors for the two openings here on the south end of the barn.
This is definitely one job I keep staring at as I'm working on it lol...definitely had turned out amazing! 🪚🔨

Was going to post these the other day but was busy at the outdoor expo this past weekend, so here's a few pictures of the first area completed.
Yesterday afternoon I repositioned the lift, tore down the lean to and cleaned up the debris, removed the barn siding on the 10 foot section and about 10 feet of the 60 foot stretch. Today the new siding went on the 10 foot area today. I'll be adding more windows to both sections that are getting worked on now.
And to whoever drove passed in their 18 wheeler pulling a hopper bottom trailer and threw their train horns on while I was working, I heard ya and I appreciated that! It 💯 made my day!!! Roll on!!!

First side complete!!! Progress had slowed up a bit with preparing for the outdoor expo this weekend but dang does it feel great to have this side completed before the weekend!

Can we take a moment and admire some true craftsmanship!
For those that don't know, these old structures are truly hand built. From cutting the trees down, to squaring up the logs into beams and columns with an axe, to the joinery and to erecting the structures.
It's amazing how well built and solid these buildings are and are an example of true craftsmanship.

With yesterday's weather I stayed in the shop which honestly was a good thing. I have a couple hundred pot calls (turkey calls for our turkey call company, Gobbler Ridge Calls 🙂) that needed to worked on before I could start spraying the finish. So yesterday morning I drilled the proper depths of the striking surfaces and finished around lunchtime.
With the barn project, Levi has been helping me with clean up almost everyday at the end of the day. For him helping me (and because he has been asking for a certain Lego set) I took him to Milwaukee and surprised him with taking him to the Lego store which he was very shocked lol.
After we got back I went back to the shop and had a very late night spraying finish. Heading back to the barn project today after I sand the pot calls so I can apply finish later today. 🙂

Windows are installed and the trim around the windows is complete! Also got the 1x6 board across the bottom which really caps off the bottom nicely and gives it a clean look.
Was really hoping to start putting the battens on today but I can't complain with the progress. 🙂

It's window and trim day!
