The “Bigs” decided they needed some more greenhouse space and man are they handy because we can get a jump start on our seedlings! We worked hard Friday, they built a couple greenhouses and got the play house cleaned and started decorating for Easter 🐰 We finished Friday getting our veggies and flower seeds planted and then…..

Mother Nature had another idea 🌪

What do Sunflowers 🌻 and The “Bigs” have in common?

They are both bright and cheery, and as warm and inviting as the sweet summer sun! ☀️

I gotta take a minute and brag on these two cuties! Amelia and Rhett have started tending to these beauties and we’re already seeing the reward!

We started our gardening and planting about a week ago or so and of course all of us can agree that☝️our favorites is the beautiful sunflower! These will actually grow into Velvet Queens!

I can’t even begin to describe the joy I get from watching them put their hands in the dirt and carefully count out all their seeds. They patiently 💦 and wait until they start seeing the little seedlings start to take off. 🌱

Have you ever thought about all the skills it takes to plant, manage and grow a garden? I mean think about it, gardening isn’t for sissies!

🌱 Use all 🖐 senses
🌱 Enhances fine motor skills
🌱 It’s science 🧪
🌱It teaches responsibility and patience ⏰
🌱It helps you learn to plan and organize 📆
🌱It teaches the importance of the 🌍 and taking
care of it ♻️
🌱It develops math 🧮 skills
🌱Most importantly, it’s a family activity ♥️

We have been recycling 💦 bottles this year and they are making into some fine little mini greenhouses!

This makes my ♥️ Happy!

It’s That Time! 🌱

The Little Sprouts have got the planner 🗓 out and we have started our Winter sowing! It is a fun and easy way to start seeds outside during the winter or cold weather. I heard about this last year from my plant and flower loving 🥰 sister-friend Tammy, and honestly thought “why haven’t we done this before 🤷‍♀️” If you’re not familiar with it, you plant your seeds in miniature greenhouses made from recycled ♻️ plastic containers, and then put them outside in the snow and freezing cold. What!?! The whole reason for starting our little “hobby” garden was to keep the “Bigs” hands in the dirt and not on electronics or in front of the tube 📺. Actually, it’s for so many reasons but I’ll try not to bore you with all of that right now, This is even a bigger win because we also try to recycle and up cycle when we can! Gardening with your kids or for me, my grands is so rewarding but I’ll post about that later! So it’s a win-win!

“Food for Thought” This ⬇️ says so much! I was talking to a couple friends last night about my “Little Sprouts” and how much joy I’ve had watching them grow their garden and how much ❤️ they put into it! I couldn’t show enough pictures of the progress they’ve made and how much we’ve both learned from each other!

People often say to me, "you can't keep your children in a bubble". And I reply, "it's not a bubble, it's a greenhouse."

A bubble stifles growth and blocks out nutrients. A greenhouse provides an environment for cultivation.

Children’s hearts need to be “greenhoused” before they’re ready to be transplanted out into the world. We release when their roots are deep and they are mature enough to withstand the storms, not beforehand.

While they're still under our protection, we take the responsibility for engaging them in learning about different cultures, ideologies and values. They should only know worldly teachings enough that they will be inoculated against them.

It's neither parenting out of fear or legalism, nor going to the opposite extreme of being too permissive.

No, our kids shouldn't grow up in a bubble. But they shouldn't be left exposed to the harsh outside elements, either.

The greenhouse of our home has all the right conditions for those young seeds to grow and flourish.
