🌸 Meet the “Belles of the South” — Camellias! 🌸
These beauties originated in Southeast Asia and symbolize appreciation and admiration in Japan.
Here in Lower Alabama, we love camellias for their stunning red, pink, and variegated blooms that brighten our yards from fall through spring. They’re so adored that Camellia japonica became Alabama’s state flower back in 1959!
Camellias love:
🍃 Partial shade
🌱 Acidic soil
💧 Less water as they mature
✂️ A light prune after they finish blooming
Whether they’re a bush, hedge, or shaped into a small tree — enjoy their evergreen charm and show-stopping flowers all season long! 🌺
