Many times there are posts about customers giving large deposits to a contractor and the contractor disappears or doesn’t do the job.
Years ago I was doing a job for a NJ State Senator who had a similar experience. He asked me if this happened often and why. I told him that yes it was happening and that it was his ( NJ State) fault since there wasn’t any sort of registration required to be a home improvement contractor in NJ. In fact, only 2 states, Florida & California had any type of registration requirements. Senator Inverso and I sat down and reviewed their requirements and modified it. We wanted the requirements to have purpose and not just be a fee base for the state. Proud to say the bill got passed and we were one of the very first to be registered with the NJ Attorney General’s Office- Division of Consumer Affairs.
