The Gambler has been seeing some encouraging fluke fishing lately, with a handful of quality keepers pushing the 4-pound mark and better. While the action hasnโt been red-hot every trip, the fluke are definitely around and showing up more consistently as we move further into the season.
Sea bass have been scarce on our drifts lately, but anglers targeting fluke have been seeing steady action from shorts mixed with keeper-sized fish.
One of our recent anglers, Susie B. of Brick, joined us on Sunday afternoon and stayed busy with plenty of short fluke action while putting a couple of keepers in the cooler.
An interesting trend weโve noticed is that our rental rods fishing traditional bait rigs have often been outfishing the Gulp jiggers. With water temperatures still running on the cool side, the fluke seem a little sluggish and appear to be responding better to slower-moving natural baits. Thatโs something worth keeping in mind when planning your next trip.
