A major transformation on this staircase in Bay Head, NJ. We converted the existing stained wood handrails and newel posts to a clean white finish, giving the entire stairwell a brighter, more updated look.

On a project like this, the finish is only as good as the prep underneath it.

The existing stained and clear-coated wood was thoroughly sanded, cleaned, and deglossed to create the proper surface for adhesion. From there, we applied the appropriate stain-blocking primer before moving on to the finish coats.

That priming step is especially important when converting stained wood to white. Without the proper primer, natural tannins and staining from the wood can bleed through the new paint, causing yellow or brown discoloration over time. Taking the extra steps during prep helps prevent bleed-through and gives the new finish a much better chance of staying crisp and white.

After priming, everything was finished with Benjamin Moore Regal Select Semi-Gloss for a smooth, durable and washable finish designed to handle the everyday use a staircase gets.

A lot more goes into a stained-to-painted conversion than simply putting white paint over the wood—and the prep makes the difference.

Prep is everything—especially when it comes to decks.

This deck was showing significant failure from the previous coating, with areas chipping and peeling off the surface instead of properly penetrating and protecting the wood. This can happen when stain is applied before the wood is ready, the surface isn’t properly prepared, or the product is applied incorrectly.

Before putting any new product down, we focused on getting the surface right. The deck was thoroughly washed and scrubbed to remove dirt, loose material, and failing stain and create the best possible surface for the new finish.

Once properly prepped and dried, we refinished the deck using Sherwin-Williams SuperDeck, giving the wood a fresh, uniform appearance while helping protect it from the elements.

A deck finish is only as good as the surface underneath it. Skipping prep might save time today, but it usually costs you later

Summer camp is wrapped up, and Brookside School is getting a fresh start for the new school year!

These high-traffic entry doors had definitely seen the effects of a busy summer. We cleaned, prepped, and refinished them to give the entrance a clean, bright, refreshed appearance ready to welcome students and staff back.

There’s something especially rewarding about working in the schools that are such an important part of our local community. We’re happy and proud to be part of the Brookside School family and to help get the building looking its best for another school year.

From summer camp to back to school — a fresh coat goes a long way.

Factory-primed doesn’t mean finish-ready.

This front door came from the factory in white, and the goal was to give it a completely different look with a deep navy blue finish — while keeping it as smooth and clean as possible.

The biggest part of a door like this is the prep work. We carefully prepped the factory-primed surface, addressed the plastic trim and grille details around the glass, and thoroughly masked the glass, lockset, handle and surrounding hardware.

Taking the time to properly protect and prep those areas allowed us to apply the navy finish with minimal visible brush strokes and maintain crisp, clean lines around all of the detailed areas.

The result: a simple color change that completely transformed the entrance and looks like it could have come from the factory this way.

This Point Pleasant Beach home had been left unattended for months, and moisture had taken a serious toll. Paint throughout the home was peeling, bubbling and chipping, especially across the ceilings and other affected surfaces.

This wasn’t a job where you could simply paint over the problem.

We brought the interior back by:

• Scraping away all loose, peeling and failing paint
• Spackling and repairing damaged surfaces
• Sanding and prepping everything for a smooth finish
• Repainting the ceilings, walls and trim throughout
• Removing the old carpet to expose the hardwood floors underneath

A fresh coat of paint only looks as good as the surface underneath it. When a home has moisture damage and years of wear, proper preparation is what makes the difference between a quick cover-up and a lasting paint job

I’m Alex Vazquez, owner of Alex Vazquez Painting. Before starting this company in 2018, I served in law enforcement and worked as a union painter and project manager. Those experiences shaped the way I approach every job—with integrity, attention to detail, accountability, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

I’m a husband and proud father of three. Family, faith in hard work, and treating people with respect are the values that drive both my life and my business. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me outdoors- hunting, fishing, or enjoying everything the outdoors has to offer. Being outdoors has taught me patience, preparation, and respect for the process, all qualities I bring to every project.

At Alex Vazquez Painting, I believe great craftsmanship starts with trust. That’s why I stay personally involved from the first estimate to the final walkthrough. I don’t hand your project off and disappear—I’m directly involved every step of the way to ensure clear communication, quality workmanship, and a finished product that exceeds expectations.

I take pride in serving the communities I live and work in. Whether it’s a single room, a full home transformation, or a commercial project, my goal is simple: deliver exceptional results while treating every customer’s home or business with the same care and respect I’d expect for my own.

When you hire Alex Vazquez Painting, you’re not just hiring a painting contractor—you’re partnering with someone who values honesty, craftsmanship, and relationships that last long after the paint has dried. Call me directly any time. 732-569-2164

This project included a full interior repaint that completely refreshed the home. We brightened the walls and trim, created a bold navy accent wall to add character, and delivered clean, crisp lines throughout every room. Every surface was properly protected before work began, and the home was left clean and ready to enjoy.

Whether it’s one room or an entire home, the details make the difference—and that’s where we take pride.

If you’re planning to update your home before fall, now is a great time to get on the schedule.
