Seeing brown or straw-colored patches suddenly showing up in your lawn?
You’re not alone—we’re seeing this across many lawns right now.
With the recent weather swings here in Iowa (cool temperatures, then sudden heat, followed by heavy rain and humidity), many lawns—especially those with perennial ryegrass and bluegrass mixes—are showing signs of weather-related turf stress commonly called Ascochyta leaf blight.
The good news:
✅ This is typically a leaf blade stress issue, not root damage
✅ It is not caused by recent lawn applications
✅ Fungicides are usually not necessary at this stage
✅ Most lawns recover well with proper watering, sharp mower blades, and stable weather
This kind of damage can appear incredibly fast—sometimes almost overnight—which understandably catches homeowners off guard.
If your lawn has some sudden brown patching, don’t panic. We’re monitoring conditions closely and are always happy to take a look if you have concerns.
