❄️ Winter Storm Fern Preparation Tips for CCECA Members ❄️
Winter Storm Fern is expected to move into our area soon. Now is a good time to take a few steps to keep your home warm, safe, and running efficiently during colder temperatures.
Helpful reminders as the weather approaches:
🔹 Make sure your heating system is set to Auto, so it cycles only when needed
🔹 Aim for a comfortable 68° while you’re home, and turn it down a bit overnight to save energy
🔹 Let the sunshine help — open blinds during the day and close them after dark to hold in heat
🔹 Check air vents and replace old filters to help your system work its best
🔹 Dress in layers and grab an extra blanket instead of turning the thermostat higher
⚠️ Generator & safety reminder:
If you are using a generator, make sure it is connected properly and never backfeed power into your home. Backfeeding can send electricity onto power lines and creates a serious danger for our linemen working to restore outages.
Please also use caution outdoors. With strong winds and saturated ground, trees are already falling, and downed lines can be extremely dangerous. Our crews are actively working current outages and will continue responding as conditions allow.
Colder weather increases electricity use across our community. Being mindful of energy consumption helps us maintain reliable service for all members.
