Every house we tear down has a story. This one got to write one more chapter before it went.

Before this old property came down, we opened it up to the local fire department so crews could train on something real. Cutting rooflines, forcing doors, working through hallways that don't give up their secrets easily. The kind of practice that can't be replicated anywhere else.

Our longtime demo partner RJ Corley of RC Siteworks, a firefighter himself, helped make it happen. Giving back to this community looks like a lot of things, and sometimes it looks like handing over a house before the excavator ever shows up.

Grateful for partners like RJ, and for every firefighter who showed up to train today.

Color drenching is exactly what it sounds like: one color covering the walls, trim, ceiling, even the doors, so the whole room reads as a single, saturated space.

Why do it? A few reasons keep showing up.

It makes small or oddly shaped rooms feel intentional instead of cramped, because there's no trim line breaking up the space and tricking your eye into measuring it. It also creates mood fast. A deep blue or forest green room feels cozy and enclosed in a way a neutral room never will, which is exactly why it works so well in dens, offices, and bedrooms meant for winding down.

It's a stronger fit for rooms with a clear purpose, spaces for reading, sleeping, or relaxing, rather than high traffic areas like kitchens or entryways where you want more visual openness.

The tradeoff is commitment. This isn't a color you touch up in a weekend if you change your mind, so it works best when you're confident in the mood you're going for.

A waterfront lot gives a home its view. It doesn't give it its character.

That comes from everywhere else.

This Ponte Vedra Beach home earned its details room by room, not because the water outside made it easy, but because every space got the same level of attention regardless of what was on the other side of the window.
