Two false statements i hear a lot:
"Sod needs less water."
"Hydroseed needs less water."
š§ Hydroseed vs Sod: Letās Talk Watering Needs š§
One of the biggest misconceptions about new lawns is that sod needs less water than hydroseed. The truth? BOTH require consistent watering to establish healthy roots.
š± Hydroseed:⢠Needs frequent light watering during germination⢠Typically watered 2ā4 times daily at first⢠Seed develops roots directly into your soil for strong establishment⢠Watering frequency decreases as the grass matures
š© Sod:⢠Requires deep watering immediately after installation⢠Needs enough water to keep the sod and soil underneath moist⢠If sod dries out before rooting, it can shrink, separate, or die⢠Often uses large amounts of water in the first few weeks
The key difference:Hydroseed keeps the surface moist for seed germination, while sod needs deep saturation so roots can bond with the soil underneath.
No matter which option you choose, proper watering is the #1 factor in getting a thick, healthy lawn. šæ
