This is such a sad story because it was preventable. Mold can cause serious health issues when left unchecked. The goal is to keep mold levels lower indoors than out, and preventative measures such as inspections and testing are important.

The hospital says seven patients have died from Aspergillus infections since 2001. More than a dozen others have been sickened.

How did you like that heat wave???

A reminder, mold thrives in environments that are warm and wet. With summer temperatures many enclosed places in your home will exceed 70 degrees. Those temperatures paired with leaky pipes, a humid bathroom, or any other damp areas is a recipe for mold.

I know, some of you may be shocked by this, but bleach is not a cure all for mold! In fact, some molds are actually able to defend themselves against bleach and make a mold problem worse.

The reason? Is that bleach is 93-97% water. What does mold need to grow? Moisture. So, putting water onto a surface that water can pe*****te can make things worse.

Isa and her brother, Scooter, love spending time in this spring sun! It is the best time of year to stretch out and enjoy the fresh air. Speaking of fresh air!

Mold tip...keep a window or two cracked to allow fresh air to circulate. This helps keep humidity down, which is a key factor in mold growth.

As people are readying for the Thanksgiving holiday I wanted to to take a moment and offer my services...I am an experienced taste tester with the apron to prove it! With the use of humidifiers during winter and cold seasons it’s important to make sure you follow proper maintenance and cleaning protocols.

The Centers for Disease Control said a humidifier that was not used for a decade is connected to deadly cases of Aspergillus mold infections at Seattle Children's.
