⚡ EV OWNERS — QUICK QUESTION ⚡
Did your EV charger get plugged into a dryer outlet?
Because we’re seeing this a lot lately… and it’s a problem.
🚫 Common mistake:
Many handymen install a standard dryer receptacle and call it an EV outlet.
It may “work,” but it is not designed for continuous EV charging.
What a proper EV outlet should have:
• A receptacle rated for EV charging (often marked with a vehicle symbol)
• A circuit sized for continuous load (EVs pull power for hours)
• A GFCI breaker — REQUIRED by code
• Proper wiring and terminations meant for high, repeated current
Dryer outlets and standard breakers weren’t built for this kind of demand. Over time, we see overheating, damaged outlets, nuisance tripping, and fire risk.
Honest question:
If you have an EV charger at home — do you know what type of outlet it’s actually using?
