My sunrise
My first light
Pushing back the darkness -
Pushing back the night
The love of my life
My beautiful wife
“Katie”
You might think it odd to start an obituary with a tribute to someone other than the deceased - but if you’re reading this, I am the deceased, and I’ve always been at least a little odd. As of this writing I’m still among the living. I thought it was a good idea to write this myself rather than to burden family and friends with the task.
I consider my life to be ended on July 29th, 2006 at 11:58 pm - The day and hour I said goodbye to my Katie. The intervening years I’ve spent trying to get my “ducks in a row” so to speak. I didn’t want my physical passing to cause any problems for the loved ones I’m leaving behind.
For Rick, Ericka, and Jennifer - I’m leaving each of you a small piece of my heart and soul as an eternal token of my unconditional love for all of you. The rest of my spirit belongs forever to my Katie.
Rick was born on July 25, 1943 to George L. and Jean L. (Graveldinger) Trapp in Tiffin, Ohio.
He is survived by his children, Richard B. (Anne) Trapp, II of Texas, Ericka J. Barrett (Jeffrey Eastwood) of Indiana, and Jennifer L. (Dr. Terrance O.) Moore of Colorado, as well as 7 amazing grandchildren; Ricky and Ashley Trapp, Wyatt Dean, and Samuel, Daniel, Mary Helen and David Moore, all of whom he loved so dearly. Rick is also survived by two sisters, Susan “Susie” Feasel and Margaret “Marg” (Ronald) Culver, both of Tiffin, sister-in-law, Patricia “Patty” (Joel) Trapp, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Rick also had an entire “other family” made up of former coworkers, clients, and business contacts. These people meant the world to him during all of his years heading up his “Richards Builders” home construction business. Rick never met a stranger, always had a story to tell, and never met a fish he couldn’t catch, Lord knows he spent enough time on the river to try to catch them all!
Loved ones that passed before him include his parents, George and Jean, beloved wife, Katie, brothers, George and Joel Trapp, and infant daughter, Kristene.
Special thanks go to his hospice nurse’s for caring so greatly for Rick during the past 3 ½ months, “Aunt Sue” for being his absolute “rock”, tireless caretaker, friend and little sister, and George and Mickie Trapp for unselfishly giving their time, care, and love on a daily basis.
A tribute to “Ol’ Trapper” will be announced soon.
