Exterior finishes can’t feel like an afterthought.

On this custom spec home, we used Dovetail for the body, Sherwin-Williams Creamy for the trim, and the Versetta Stone Ledgestone profile in Sterling to help anchor the elevation.

Versetta Stone is a stone siding product — mortarless, mechanically fastened, and something our crew was able to install in-house. For this project, it helped bring the exterior package together while still keeping the install practical from a builder’s standpoint.

I build houses for a living…but my wife is the real puzzler in this family.

sent us this Luminous Zeppelin, and I figure, how hard could a wooden model kit be?

Turns out, building houses and solving puzzles are not exactly the same skill set.

This exhaust fan was pulling about 8 watts.

At my current electric rate, running it continuously would cost around $13/year.

Some of the cleanest finish details start long before the finish stage.

We’re planning ahead for Prado Unifit Single outlet. It uses a self-contained junction box cap, so the rough-in location and finish planning matter before drywall ever goes up.

Later, we’ll use the counterbore bit to create the recessed opening so the outlet can sit clean and flush.

More to come as this one moves from rough-in to finish.

Here's a new arrow in our quiver. Smartrock.

It's a stone based insulation with a variable v***r retarder membrane combined.

In this case, we're using it vertically on the sealed crawlspace walls.

I was down at the Grundfos North American headquarters and noticed a detail worth pointing out from the architectural side.

This radiused wall uses open-joint wood cladding, which means the weather-resistive barrier behind it becomes part of the exposed assembly.

If the WRB is visible between the boards, it needs to be specified for that exposure — especially in high-sun environments. In the Pacific Northwest, UV exposure may not be as intense, but the principle still matters.

Open-joint cladding can look great, but the products behind it need to be selected for the way the wall actually performs over time.

It’s a small detail, but it changes the finished feel of the window.

These Innotech hinge covers don’t take long to install, but once they’re on, the window looks cleaner and more complete.

It’s one of those little things most people may not think about after the fact — and that’s kind of the point.

Clean details should quietly disappear into the finished product.

Before backfill, the photos matter.

Drainage, waterproofing, pipe locations — a lot of important work eventually gets covered up.

I used CompanyCam’s AI report feature to turn the jobsite photos into a clean summary I could send to Tim instead of just sending 25 random images.

Document it before it disappears.

AI in construction gets interesting when it connects to the tools we already use.

I’ve been testing Bluebeam Max, including the connection between Claude and Revu through MCP.

This is one simple example, but multiply it across sheets, markups, and repetitive review tasks, and the time savings start to become pretty real.

Curious how others in the AEC world would use this.
