Today is Building & Code Staff Appreciation Day, and it's one we actually care about.

Building inspectors, electrical inspectors, plan reviewers, permit technicians. These are the people who make sure the work being done in our community is safe, up to code, and built to last. They don't get a lot of credit, but they should.

Meet Rick, the guy who keeps Privett Electric running behind the scenes. 👏

As our warehouse manager, Rick handles all incoming materials, keeps the shop organized, and makes sure everything is where it needs to be so our crew can do their jobs without missing a beat. It's not always the most visible role, but trust us, we'd feel it if Rick wasn't around.

Most homeowners don't think about their electrical system until something goes wrong. But your home's wiring, outlets, and panel are working every single day, and they deserve a little attention.

Here are three things worth checking before the year gets away from you:
1️⃣ Your panel — if it's more than 20-25 years old, or if you've added major appliances, an EV charger, or a new HVAC system without upgrading it, it's worth having a licensed electrician take a look.

2️⃣ Your outlets — loose connections, discoloration, or anything that sparks when you plug something in are all signs it's time to replace them. Don't wait.

3️⃣ Surge protection — one bad storm can fry your appliances, your HVAC system, and anything else plugged in. A whole-home surge protector is one of the smartest installs you can do.

August is almost over, but your AC isn't done yet.

Here in Eastern NM and West Texas, we run our systems hard from May through September. By this point in the summer, your unit has been working overtime for months. That's exactly when small issues turn into bigger ones.

This week is Safe & Sound Week ⚡️
A national recognition of workplace safety and the people who take it seriously.

For us, safety isn't a poster on the wall. It's how we train, how we work, and how we look out for each other on every job site 🚧 whether it's a residential service call or a large commercial project.

Our crew works in attics in 110-degree heat, on commercial rooftops, and inside industrial facilities. They do it right, they do it safely, and they do it every single day without making a big deal about it.

Today is Professional Engineers Day, and it's a good reminder of something we think about every time we take on a commercial or industrial job.

Engineering isn't just about blueprints. It's about the people who show up and make those plans real. The ones pulling wire through a building at 6 am, running conduit in the heat, and making sure every connection is done right before the doors open.

Every month we're going to introduce you to the people who make Privett Electric what it is. Because at the end of the day, we're not just a company; we're a crew of real people who live and work right here in Eastern NM and West Texas.

Abe has been with us for going on 21 years now. He is one of our Journeyman Electricians, and if you've ever called us for an electrical job, there's a good chance he was the one who showed up. Abe is loyal, hardworking, honest, and truly cares about the quality of work that our customers receive.
