John Ryan and Greg Lanou on site at Bayside Anchor in 2016, as Wright-Ryan began a new chapter as a 100% employee-owned company. At the time, John described the goal as “preserving the culture and rewarding the team that got us here.”

Ten years later, that vision lives on in the careers built here, the relationships that endure, and the people who share in the company’s success. Today, our 2026 team carries that legacy forward, as seen at our Annual Meeting this May.

This October, we’re celebrating a decade of employee ownership alongside Wright-Ryan’s recognition as one of the Best Places to Work in Maine. A lot has changed since 2016, but one thing hasn’t: our people have always been at the heart of Wright-Ryan.

A new home for a beloved Brunswick tradition is taking shape at 262 Pleasant Hill Road (Dionne Farm). We are working with Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust to build a new space for its Saturday Farmers Market, with a market green, open-air pavilion, and improved parking and vendor access. The project will give the growing Market more room and create a place for community gatherings, learning, and celebrations throughout the year. The community spirit behind this project was on full display at the recent groundbreaking, where we joined neighbors and project partners to celebrate this next chapter. With construction underway, we look forward to sharing how the site takes shape.

Our team is building the new Harpswell Marine Institute, designed to support applied marine science, education, community engagement, and access to Harpswell’s working waterfront. The facility will include two dry labs and a dedicated flowing seawater lab, providing essential infrastructure for field research, environmental monitoring, and marine technology development. These spaces will support scientists, students, educators, and community partners in conducting real-world science, while creating opportunities for STEM education, workforce development, and hands-on learning tied directly to the bay. Built as a working hub for research, learning, and engagement, the Harpswell Marine Institute will strengthen connections among Maine’s marine science and working waterfront communities and help prepare the next generation to sustain healthy coastal ecosystems and livelihoods.

Before the ribbon cutting, the finished photos, and the doors open, there are thousands of decisions, details, and hours of work that make it happen. Construction Appreciation Week is about the people behind all of it. A great milestone for such a meaningful project. Our team recently joined Woodfords Family Services to celebrate the ribbon cutting of their new Central Maine Community Services Hub in Manchester, Maine. It was especially rewarding to see the finished space in use and celebrate alongside everyone who helped bring the project to life. We’re excited to see this new space serve Woodfords and the communities they support for years to come.

This year, we celebrated Women in Construction in a few different ways. We started in March with a small office gathering during the official Women in Construction Week. In May, a group attended Bernsteinshur’s 11th Annual Women in Construction event, where our own Cordelia Pitman served as a panelist and shared her insights with fellow industry professionals. To top it all off, a group of Wright-Ryan women embarked on a guided bus tour of several Residential and Commercial job sites, connecting with project teams and seeing the work firsthand. Each event offered a meaningful opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate the women helping shape our company and the construction industry!

Our team recently celebrated an important milestone for the Discovery Village project at the Central Lincoln County YMCA in Damariscotta. The groundbreaking marked an exciting step forward for the new nature-based learning center, which will include five permanent yurts, four classrooms and one dedicated to administrative and storage space, along with a nature-inspired play area. Once complete, the facility will provide childcare and early education for children up to age five.

It was a beautiful day at Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm on May 27th as we celebrated the grand opening of the new Ann & Jim Hancock Native Plants Education Center!

Wright-Ryan was grateful to serve as Construction Manager for this meaningful project, working alongside Maine Audubon, Kaplan Thompson Architects, Aceto Kimball Landscape Architecture, Acorn Engineering, R.J. Grondin & Sons, and many others to help bring the new space to life.

Designed to support hands-on learning, conservation, and native plant programming for people of all ages, the center will help connect more Mainers with the natural world around them. Congratulations to Maine Audubon on this exciting milestone!

April 8th holds a special meaning to us. In 2014, the City of Portland officially declared April 8th Wright-Ryan Day in recognition of our commitment to working in the community. To celebrate, we’re throwing it back to 1984 with a photo of our founders, John Ryan and Tom Wright, on the barge during Wright-Ryan’s early days working on Cliff Island.
