This maple tree that I removed had multiple structural defects. I found it had multiple branch bark connections with inclusive bark. I found holes in the trunk where limbs in the past had broken that were filled with water causing rot and decay in some of the stems. Two of the main stems out of the four all together had fungal decay in the lower part of the trunk. Probably root rot caused by the pathogen Armillaria mellea.
The tall Douglas fir that's next to the maple had a table around it for so long it's been girdled and will be getting removed as well. A tree being girdled is like an animal being strangled.
