🦝 It's the right time of year for female raccoons to be on the hunt for nesting sites. Unfortunately, a lot of urban raccoons are born in attics, crawlspaces, and sheds. What this means is, that's all they know!
An urban raccoon mother's "What to expect when you're expecting book" outlines that she must do anything possible to access human structures because that's where she knows she's safe to raise her young. This raccoon is taking her babies out of the attic to forage for food, as they are not quite big enough to make the climb alone.
Once a raccoon moves into a structure, she has an affinity for redecoration. Some of the ways she redecorates are, moving insulation, chewing wires, creating a toilet, and staining your ceilings with her urine.
A raccoon's f***s pose a health risk for many reasons but none quite as large as Raccoon Roundworm. This parasite is not hosted well by humans or domestic animals and can cause grave illness in the young and elderly.
