We were brought in to handle some highly aggressive raccoons in Portland and KOIN 6 interviewed us aiming to educate the general public about the risks urbanized raccoons can pose to the public!

When aggressive raccoons attacked people and their pets in Northwest Portland recently, some of the victims hired professional wildlife control experts.

Did you know it only takes an opening half an inch wide to allow your average sized rat to squeeze on through? It's highly likely that there are half inch gaps on your home!

Homeowners and businesses that experience rat issues don't always experience them because they are "dirty" as many tend to think. Rats are intelligent, and opportunistic; they see a cozy, dry, food-filled area and they're going to go for it!

Rats can get into your home through roof vents, foundation vents, eave vents, gaps in your foundations, gaps around utilities, loose siding and more.

Here at ABL Wildlife we go over your home with w fine tooth comb so to speak. We ensure that all points of entry are accounted for and addressed with proper, rodent-resistant exclusion.

Call us for all your rodent issues! We offer humane capture, specialized traps, rodenticides and population regulating agents.

Don't settle for hardware cloth and spray foam- get a lasting solution from ABL Wildlife and Pest Control.

This poor fella was locked in a crawlspace by a homeowner on accident! They didn't know it was under there and it had no way of escaping! The civet cat pictured here likely went under the home in search of rodents to eat, as they are a predatory species.

Several hours later the homeowner calls for a skunk odor, asking for an inspection. Since this adorable critter is a civet cat, they spray the same odor as a skunk! (They're also known as a spotted skunk)

I crawled over to it, thinking it was deceased, to find it weak and dehydrated but alive. After discovering that this little civet was indeed alive, I brought it outside, gave it some water, and placed it in a safe area to rest.

Civet cats are a native species and can be released on site where they are captured!

🦝 It's the right time of year for female raccoons to be on the hunt for nesting sites. Unfortunately, a lot of urban raccoons are born in attics, crawlspaces, and sheds. What this means is, that's all they know!

An urban raccoon mother's "What to expect when you're expecting book" outlines that she must do anything possible to access human structures because that's where she knows she's safe to raise her young. This raccoon is taking her babies out of the attic to forage for food, as they are not quite big enough to make the climb alone.

Once a raccoon moves into a structure, she has an affinity for redecoration. Some of the ways she redecorates are, moving insulation, chewing wires, creating a toilet, and staining your ceilings with her urine.

A raccoon's f***s pose a health risk for many reasons but none quite as large as Raccoon Roundworm. This parasite is not hosted well by humans or domestic animals and can cause grave illness in the young and elderly.

Are you struggling with raccoons in your attic, shed, or crawlspace? Hearing a chittering sound coming from one of your structures? We can help! We have many humane solutions and deterrents available for our Portland clientele.

Please don't wait, give us a call today!

This is an example of what not to do!

Do any of YOUR vents look like this one?

Here's why we don't do this at ABL Wildlife and Pest Control:

1) Spray foam can easily be chewed through by rodents.
2) This particular type of spray foam is not rated for UV exposure and will degrade over time.
3) This will allow rodents to re-enter the crawlspace eventually.
4) We can do better than this, so why wouldn't we?

Please check your foundation vents every Spring and every Fall to make sure your home is as safe as it can be. If you have any questions or don't quite know what to look for, give us a call! We're here to help Portland homes and businesses remain pest free!

We are often asked

"What is the strangest thing you've ever captured?"

To that our answer is: a domesticated Emu!

This wild adventure took some finesse as Emu aren't typically known for their easy going nature. Due to the fact that this emu was someone's pet, we hoped that it would allow us to capture it.

Once we did our research on transport and animal sanctuaries to host the emu, we got to work!

The emu was wary of our approach and skirted around us for about ten minutes before it sat down. Then, we slowly walked up to the emu, lulling it into a sense of calm with kind tones in our voices....

One of us gently grabbed the wings, the other tucked it's head, as we guided it into the container and viola!

Had this been a feral emu, this story would've ended very differently. Luckily, the emu (Now named Gerry) was a good sport about this endeavor. Gerry was likely pretty scared to be away from his humans!

Here at ABL Wildlife and Pest Control we’re game for Portland’s weirdest Wildlife calls.

'Tis the season for skunk breeding!

Urban, western striped skunks typically nest in crawlspaces, under outbuildings, or under patios or steps.

One female skunk can be responsibly for 8-14 babies a season, that's a LOT of new skunks per year.

Don't forget the fact that skunks often carry distemper, raccoon roundworm, and have the potential to be a rabies vector.

If you're noticing skunk odor, digging in your lawn, or holes under your outbuilding or in your foundation vents.. don't hesitate to call us!

We can remove the skunk from the site, or simply evict the skunk and seal them out of the home.

We also provide services for deodorization and crawlspace remediation!
