What's the difference between a shell-only build and a finished shop?

A shell gives you the structure: posts, framing, engineered trusses, siding, roofing, and a weather-tight exterior. You have a solid, finished-looking building from the outside and a clean open interior ready for whatever comes next.

A finished shop adds insulation, interior wall panels, electrical, concrete, and any other interior work you need.

Neither option is wrong. It depends on your timeline, your budget, and what you plan to do with the space.

Hayden Structures builds both. We can also connect you with trusted trades for the interior work if you want it done but don't want to manage multiple contractors yourself.

Framing day is the one that changes everything.

You've gone through site prep, grading, and foundation work. The lot looks like a construction zone. Then the posts go in, the trusses lift into place, and suddenly you can see exactly what your building is going to be.

Doors matter more than most people realize when they're planning a shop.

The size of your overhead door determines what can actually get in and out. A standard garage door won't clear a lifted truck, a boat on a trailer, or a full-size RV. Getting that decision right at the design stage costs nothing. Changing it after the frame is up is a different story.

If you're planning a shop or garage in North Idaho, talk through your door sizes before you finalize your floor plan. It's one of those details that's easy to adjust early and hard to fix later.
