Thank you Hearts Of Humanity Community Development Corporation for hosting the harvest festival. It was a pleasure to meet other community members from Pottstown that also care about local food and permaculture. The Edge Farms brought their milk goat, shelby, on a leash!

Leaves are a great resource for garden beds during the cool months because the organic matter keeps the soil biology warm and protected from harsh UV rays & below freezing temperatures. I also added worm castings to the soil to help strengthen the root systems of the blunt mountain mint. Watering the garden will activate the soil microbes in the worm castings 🪱💩

Today I ventured over to Earthware Sustainable Goods in Skippack, PA to learn more about the refillable soap options. I also had the pleasure to learn about a locally owned composting company, R. E. Waste Reduction, based out of Lansdale, PA ! 💩🪱🧼

You can add guinea pig manure to the worm bin and allow the worms to break down the manure into available nutrients for the plants. Then use the worm castings in the garden to grow more vegetables for the guinea pigs (and humans too).

One reason why conventional farming isn't sustainable is because the soil needs herbivore manure inputs to restore the nutrients and maintain the health of soil 🌱
