Shared from another family owned business. Think twice before you go with the low bid from your new "local" private equity owned firm. They are buying market share, and the market will dramatically shift once they have control.
Blackstone has entered the home services industry!!!
This may not sound like a big deal at first, but this is going to create a major shift in the industry.
Most homeowners don’t realize that the company they use to fix their AC or unclog their toilet is actually backed and owned by Wall Street investors.
There’s no real community connection. Sure the people who work for them might live in the next town over, but realistically capital investment firms still dictate the outcome in your home.
They do not see you as a customer. You’re merely a profile number with a margin percentage that needs to be held in order to service you.
They don’t care about your situation or the fact that your grandmother is on social security and can’t afford the thousand+ dollar repair needed. If the money in her bank can’t hit their margin, she doesn’t get help.
They’d rather see her go without than mess up their bottom line. They recruit guys without trade knowledge, without skills and pump them out as fast as they can. Putting them into homes with a cold jaded view against everything this industry was built on.
Even more, if your technician that works for this corporation tries to help you, they could be at the risk of losing their job.
This is the next catastrophe that will destroy the industry. The same way it destroyed your local hardware store. Your local grocery store. Your local mechanic.
In the beginning it doesn’t seem possible, but before you know it, it’s too late. They control the market, the industry and the price you pay.
They will out market and out price local companies for a short time. Once they control it, it all shifts.
You’ll be at their mercy and your basic necessities to live will be priced as luxury’s with creative financing to keep you locked in for life.
As a homeowner, do your research. Support locally owned companies and keep private equity out of your neighborhood.
As a business owner, collaborate with other local businesses in your trade. Work together to build the systems to scale and grow.
