🐦🌳 Ever noticed a tree covered in small holes and wondered what happened?

Woodpeckers can cause surprising amounts of damage to trees. As they peck through the bark searching for insects or creating nesting cavities, they leave behind holes that can range from tiny rows of punctures to large openings in the trunk. While a healthy tree can often tolerate minor damage, repeated pecking in the same area can weaken the bark, expose inner wood, and create entry points for decay and pests.

Over time, extensive woodpecker damage can affect a tree's appearance, health, and structural integrity. Large cavities may weaken branches or trunks, making them more susceptible to breakage during storms. That's why it's important to keep an eye on trees with heavy woodpecker activity and have them inspected if the damage appears severe.
