The State Plumbing Board of Louisiana has called a Special Board Meeting for Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
The meeting was called in response to communications SPBLA received from Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier and House Commerce Committee Chair Representative Daryl Andrew Deshotel, voicing concerns over the amount of time required to become a plumber, the requirements for testing, and the restriction of journeyman repair businesses as changed in law last year. The SPBLA board is meeting to discuss potentially offering a legislative proposal, as Representative Deshotel has expressed that he will be authoring a bill this session.
We want the board to hear directly from the industry.
While we agree that there is a workforce crisis, PHCCLA does not support eliminating requirements for either education or experience to qualify for licensing exams. We firmly believe that a person is ready for licensure after developing and demonstrating practical skills and the ability to apply knowledge and experience in their work environment.
PHCCLA believes in protecting the safety of the public. No matter the type of job being completed, the standards of plumbing code combined with the understanding of hazardous materials and situations allow a licensed professional to safeguard against potentially devastating outcomes.
All 49 states requiring a license to perform the art of plumbing require a minimum number of classroom training and/or on the job experience. Louisiana should be no different and we must defend the license you proudly hold.
Join PHCCLA at the meeting Saturday to provide public comment to support the integrity of your license. If you are not able to attend in person, please take a moment to share your comments here or send us an email at [email protected].
The meeting will be held at their office at 11304 Cloverland Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809. Thank you for support and protection of the industry.
