Green to Iron Ore.

This Powell Butte barndominium got a full exterior repaint in Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore on the body, shake gables, trim, and fascia.

The green metal roof stayed.

The red window frames stayed.

But against the new dark body, those same colors look completely different than they used to. The green roof used to blend into the green body. Now it stands out. The red windows used to compete with the green. Now they pop.

Same roof, same windows, different home.

Pressure washing is one of those steps that looks simple from the outside, but it's doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Over the years, your siding collects chalk, dirt, mildew, and old oxidized paint. You can't see most of it, but it's there. If you paint right over all of that, the new paint has nothing clean to grab onto. It might look great for a season, but down the road you'll start seeing peeling, flaking, and paint failure that has nothing to do with the paint itself.

There is a right way and a wrong way to do this part. Too much pressure can gouge siding, drive water up under laps, and damage trim. Not enough pressure leaves all that chalk and mildew behind. Using the wrong tip can do the same kind of damage. We use the right pressure and the right tip for the surface we are working on.

Once we are done, we let everything fully dry before we even think about painting. Rushing this step is one of the fastest ways to end up with a paint job that doesn't last.
