✅ New Bermuda Sod Care Checklist

📅 Day 1 – Right After Installation

• Water sod immediately after installation (within 30 minutes)
• Apply enough water to soak 1 inch deep into the soil - lift corner to make sure its going through or it can and will die
• Avoid walking on the sod

💧 Week 1–2 – Root Establishment Phase

• Water 2–3 times per day (morning, midday, early evening)
• Keep sod and soil consistently moist (not soggy)
• Check under corners of sod for moisture daily - it should be wet or its not watered enough and can die
• Avoid mowing or heavy foot traffic

🌤️ Week 3–4 – Transition Phase

• Reduce watering to once per day (preferably morning)
• Water longer (20–30 minutes) to encourage deep roots
• Mow when grass reaches 3 inches tall• Set mower height to 1.5–2 inches
• Use sharp mower blades

🌿 Week 5 and Beyond – Maintenance Phase

• Water 1–2 times per week (1 inch total per week)
• Adjust watering based on rainfall and temperature
• Apply balanced fertilizer (e.g., 16-4-8) at 4–6 weeks
• Avoid herbicides until 6–8 weeks after installation
• Hand-pull any visible weeds

⏱️ Timing Matters: Be Ready to Install Today

Sod is typically cut and delivered within 3 hours of a prearranged order.
To protect your investment, make sure your installer is ready to lay the sod the same day you order it.

☀️ Can Sod Deteriorate in Just 6 Hours?

Yes. In heat and full sun, sod left rolled up can begin to:

• Turn yellow or brown
• Feel hot to the touch
• Develop a sour or musty smell
• Show signs of curling or drying

⏳ How Long Can Sod Sit in Hot Weather?

Condition Max Safe Time
Rolled up in full sun (Beginning at 85°F) 6–12 hours
Stacked on a pallet 6–10 hours
Unrolled in shade, misted Up to 24 hours (max)

✅ What to Do If You Can’t Lay It Immediately:

• Unroll sod in a shaded area to release trapped heat
• Mist lightly to keep it cool (don’t soak)
• Avoid stacking—spread out rolls for airflow
• Lay sod as soon as possible, ideally within 12 hours
