Tile talk.
Running around and gathering tools and materials prior to the start of each job or even during the project can be very time-consuming. I would love to get a feel for how other contractors tackle this challenge. Do you have a space or a system in place that you can stock your consumables and raw materials so that you’re not wasting a bunch of time in between each project trying to gather? Maybe you have relationships with your reps or distributors whereas you can drop-ship materials on site? In that case, do you have a single distributor that handles mostly all of those items or do you find yourself still breaking to make runs? Does your GCs provide these items and have them on site already?

I hated stopping in the morning and again at lunch and making a run at the end of the day to be prepared for the next day. I started stocking the shop with all those everyday items and it’s been great. Sure there’s times when I encounter an issue where I’m missing something but it’s cut the wasted time down considerably.

What tricks do you have to keep running efficiently between jobs?

Congrats to Matt and all of those who stepped up and challenged themselves to this test. Takes guts and knowhow. Pass or fail you’ve earned my respect! ✊

🎉 Congratulations to Matt Pokusa — CTI #2090! 🎉
Matt has officially earned his Certified Tile Installer credential, demonstrating the skill, knowledge, and attention to detail that quality tile installation requires. 👏
🔢 Fun #2090 fact: 2,090 minutes is just under 35 hours — which sounds like plenty of time to finish a tile job… right up until someone adds a niche, a pattern change, and “just one little accent wall.” 😄
Congratulations, Matt, and welcome to the CTI family! 🏆

TILE TALK 🎙️ | WE ALL RISE TOGETHER
I want to clear the air on something.
I put these Tile Talks out there to share what I’ve learned over the years, pass along some tricks of the trade, and hopefully help another installer along the way.
Do I know everything? Absolutely not. Nobody does. I’m still learning too, and I’ll always be open to constructive criticism, different methods, and conversations that make all of us better at what we do.
But there’s a big difference between constructive criticism and hate.
If you disagree with something I do, let’s talk about it. Explain your method. Share your experience. Show your work. Maybe you teach me something. Maybe I teach you something. Maybe somebody reading the comments learns from both of us.
That’s how a trade gets stronger.
What I’m not interested in is going back and forth with people who show up just to insult, attack, or get attention—especially when they aren’t contributing anything that helps move the conversation forward.
There’s room here for different opinions. There’s room for different methods. There’s always room to learn. There’s just no room for hate.
A few things I believe strongly:
🧱 Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.
🧱 A rising tide lifts all boats.
🧱 When one craftsman gets better, the trade gets better.
🧱 We don’t elevate our own work by tearing down someone else’s.
🧱 Share what you know. Stay open to what you don’t.
There are a lot of talented setters out there doing great work in different ways. Instead of competing over who knows the most, let’s lean on each other, share what we’ve learned, and continue raising the standard of the tile industry together.
We all rise together. 🤝🧱

Tile Talk. This is a unique shower that has a couple features that are worth mentioning. First is an overhead rain shower, which must have proper feeds to it or it will not have the kind of pressure you may expect. Another feature is the shower has a curb-less entry. Although this may seem like a simple concept, it requires additional waterproofing and it’s very important to know the parameters of what it takes to have a feature such as this. You don’t want to discover too late in the project that you didn’t take the proper precautions on two features such as a rain showerhead and a curb-less shower entry.

Knowledge is power.

It’s all in the prep.

Another one wrapped up for XL Builders 👌

We just finished the tile portion of this bathroom, and the designers absolutely nailed the 1930s-inspired look.

The shower and bathroom floors feature custom, made-to-order 1” mosaics, with a detailed border and corner pattern framing the main bathroom floor. The walls keep it classic with traditional 3x6” subway tile, a recessed niche for storage, and matching bullnose trim throughout for a clean, period-correct finish.

Classic design, a ton of small details, and a whole lot of little tiles. 😂

TILE INSTALLERS — TIRED OF WORKING ALL DAY… THEN RUNNING A BUSINESS ALL NIGHT?

You finish setting tile for the day.

Then the second shift starts.

Estimates.
Returning calls and texts.
Meeting customers.
Figuring out material lists.
Ordering supplies.
Scheduling jobs.
Planning layouts and designs.
Chasing the next project.
Collecting money.

And somehow you’re supposed to have a life after all that.

What if you could just install tile?

Three Brothers Tile is looking for 1–2 experienced tile installers in the Delco/Philadelphia area who already know the trade and take pride in their work.

This is NOT a helper position.

We’re looking for someone who’s capable of running an installation — maybe you’re currently working for yourself with a helper — but you’re getting tired of having to run every other part of the business too.

We can take that off your plate.

Come to work.
8–4. Monday through Friday.
Steady work.
Competitive pay.
Great working environment.
Quality tools and the latest installation systems and materials.
Jobs planned and ready to go.
A company with a strong reputation and standards we’re proud of.

You don’t have to find the customer.

You don’t have to sell the job.

You don’t have to spend your night estimating the next one.

You just need to be really good at your craft.

We would spend the first few weeks or so working closely together — not because we’re looking to teach someone how to install tile, but because we want you to learn how we do things at Three Brothers Tile.

Our standards are high and our reputation matters.

Once we’re comfortable with each other, the goal is simple:

Give you a skilled helper, give you a project, and trust you to handle it with our guidance throughout.

We’re looking for someone skilled, dependable, professional, and — most importantly — still willing to learn.

If you’re an experienced installer who’s been thinking:

“I love installing tile. I’m just tired of running the whole damn business.”

We should talk.

Send us a private message and let’s have a conversation. No pressure and no commitment.
