I knew I had let my backyard get worse and worse over the past couple of years with irrigation. I’ve been dreading it but tackled it today.

Nine pop-ups replaced
Two rotors replaced
Multiple pipe connection points repaired and lots of risers. Installed to get the heads at ground level again many were buried.
Several of them were encapsulated with tree roots that I had to hack with a shovel and hatchet.
It took a total of three hours to get it done properly.

Today I was at a house doing handful of tasks. The biggest one was the garbage disposal swap out. I also adjusted the toilet flush valve, took down a large clock and replaced the batteries and hung it back up, spread some mulch around some flower beds, and put some spray foam in a large separation between stairs and foundation after the foundation was recently lifted.

I did it all in a Hawaiian shirt. Name a handyman that works in more style than I do. Never mind you might hurt my feelings!

2 flush valves and flappers today after mowing a few yards this morning. This isn’t hard to do, but it’s just hiring someone is astronomical because guys have to load up in their truck and take away from bigger jobs etc. I don’t have any of those concerns so my pricing is much more in line with what people are comfortable paying. Literally hand tightening some things and testing it. 30 minutes for 2 toilets.

After I got my 4 yards mowed I adjusted a gate latch that had stopped latching for one customer. I then cleaned off a roosting place on a customer’s front porch and applied bird spikes.

Now I need to put my Cozy Canine hat on and go meet a new customer for pet sitting and do some website stuff and then I’m done today.

Today I swapped out an icemaker in a fridge. (I will let you guess the brand.) IYKYK. Then I went to a garage that needed a new bottom seal installed and spray foam at the bottom corners to prevent rodents, etc., from entry.

I know this is not ideal for a lot of people, but I really love the randomness of doing this type of work. It keeps me on my toes and I don’t get too comfortable. This type of changing work is very good for my mental health.

When it gets to be the dog days of summer some people start realizing their irrigation systems aren’t working or some turn it on for the first time this year and realize they’ve got problems. Either way I needed to stock up on heads as I ran out last week.
