🔥 North Texas Heat Alert: Protect Your Lawn the Right Way 🔥

With triple digit temperatures expected over the next several days and little to no rain in the forecast, your lawn is going to be under a lot of stress. The good news is that proper watering can make a huge difference.

💧 Water Early in the Morning

The best time to water is between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM.

Watering during these hours:
✔️ Reduces water lost to evaporation.
✔️ Allows moisture to soak deeper into the soil.
✔️ Gives the grass time to dry after sunrise, helping reduce disease pressure.
✔️ Maximizes the effectiveness of every gallon of water.

Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day whenever possible. In extreme heat, much of that water is lost before it ever reaches the root system.

🌱 Use a Soak Cycle

Many North Texas lawns are built on heavy clay soils, which absorb water slowly. Running your sprinklers too long in one cycle often leads to runoff instead of deeper soil moisture.

Instead, try a soak cycle:
➡️ Run each zone for 10–15 minutes
⏸️ Wait 30–60 minutes
➡️ Run the zone again for 10–15 minutes
🔁 Repeat if needed.

This method allows water to pe*****te deeper into the soil, encouraging stronger root systems that are better equipped to handle prolonged heat and drought.

🌾 Remember: A lawn with deep, healthy roots will always perform better than one receiving frequent, shallow watering.

If your lawn isn’t quite as green as it was in the spring, don’t panic. Warm-season grasses like Bermuda, St. Augustine, Zoysia, and Centipede naturally slow their growth during periods of extreme heat.
