❄Town of Orleans Weekend Weather Advisory❄
The Town of Orleans is preparing for a period of extreme cold followed by a prolonged and significant winter storm expected to impact the region from Friday night through Monday. Forecasted impacts include bitter cold and dangerous wind chills, significant snowfall over an extended duration, and hazardous travel conditions. Power outages are also possible.
All programs and meetings scheduled to take place in Town Hall buildings on Monday are cancelled, and Town buildings and the Transfer Station will be closed.
Residents are strongly urged to stay off the roads during the storm unless travel is absolutely necessary. Orleans DPW, Police Deaprtment, and Fire-Rescue staff will be working before, during, and after the storm to support public safety and essential services.
Expected Conditions:
▶Friday Night through Sunday Morning
Frigid temperatures with wind chills below zero, especially Saturday morning
▶Sunday through Monday Evening
Significant snow event beginning mid-day Sunday and continuing through Monday evening
Current snowfall estimates of 8–12 inches
Potential for sleet or freezing rain on Monday
Heaviest snowfall expected overnight Sunday into Monday morning
Low potential for wind gusts of 40–45 mph
Public Safety Guidance:
▶Stay off the roads during the storm unless travel is absolutely necessary
▶Dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors
▶Bring pets indoors
▶Prepare for possible power outages
▶Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working properly
▶Make room for snowplows and completely clear snow and ice from vehicles
Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors, particularly seniors, individuals with medical needs, and those who may need assistance during extreme cold or power outages.
Residents are also encouraged to continue monitoring weather forecasts and Town communications, and to keep an eye out for additional alerts as conditions evolve.
