Can you actually pull off an indoor courtyard in Northern Utah?

A lot of people assume no — the climate just doesn't lend itself to open-air living. So we built one in differently: fully covered, topped with a massive skylight, doors that open wide when the weather's right. You get the feel of the outdoors without being at its mercy.

Sometimes "you can't do that here" just means nobody's tried hard enough.

That was the goal here. We leaned into traditional European architecture with swooping dormers, classic forms, and thoughtful details that give the home a sense of history and character.

Most people see a steep lot as a problem. We see it as an opportunity.

This site had a brutal slope, a driveway that took real thought, and height limits that boxed us in from the start. So we worked with the hill instead of against it. With stone at the base, dark wood up top, and balconies stacked, we were able to catch every inch of view the mountain was hiding.

The East City Penthouse doesn't feel small — it feels intentional. Venetian plaster adds texture, warm materials keep it grounded, and every space earns its footprint instead of wasting it.

Who would’ve thought voice acting would have this much impact on the design of a home?

For this homeowner, we tucked the office away through the primary closet and added a few extra details in the walls to help with sound.

There's something about Scandinavian design that just makes sense— simple lines, natural materials, nothing overdone.

In this Huntsville kitchen, every material choice had a reason behind it. We kept the palette quiet and let the materials do the talking, with views that do the rest of the work.

Good design doesn't need to be flashy to leave an impression. It just needs to be intentional.

One of our favorite parts of custom design is turning a challenge into the best feature of the house.

At Lindsay Lane Estates, we were working with a steep, sloping homesite— so instead of fighting it, we designed around it, capturing mountain views from nearly every angle.

Timeless arched windows meet clean, modern lines, grounded by warm wood and stone finishes, for a transitional feel that's still warm and livable.

Formal homes can go wrong pretty quickly.

Make everything too grand or too perfect and suddenly it feels more like a museum than somewhere you actually want to live.

This home gets the balance right. The tall ceilings and long hallway give it that sense of scale, while the trim and millwork add enough character to keep it warm and interesting.

A lot of it comes down to proportion. When the proportions are right, a home can feel formal without feeling stuffy.

What gives a modern home that warm mountain feel?

Inside, expansive glass keeps the home open to the mountain setting, while natural materials bring warmth and texture into the spaces. There’s a lot of glass and a lot of clean lines, but the wood, stone, and warmer finishes keep it from feeling too cold.

That balance is really what mountain modern is all about.
