I’ll be honest—I didn’t think AI was going to be that useful to me as a contractor.

Most of what I saw looked like tech hype or stuff that didn’t really apply to what we deal with day to day.

But I started testing it in real situations in my own business, and it’s been more useful than I expected.

A few examples:

- Helped me work through an issue with a building department that was failing an inspection on a completed project

- Used it to respond to a customer complaint that didn’t really have merit, but still needed a professional response

- Broke down my pricing and spend with a vendor and helped me draft a letter to renegotiate terms (and compare alternatives)

- Looked at a property survey and helped me think plan out the permit requirements before submitting

- Even helped build out material takeoffs from engineering plans

The biggest difference is this:

If you use it like Google, it’s useless.
If you structure it correctly, it actually becomes a tool you can use in your business.

It’s not something you rely on blindly—but it’s a solid starting point that saves time and helps you think things through faster.

Charlotte County Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) has two positions open.

The Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) was established under Section 3-2-42 of the Charlotte County Code of Laws and Ordinances to oversee contractor licensing and standards within the construction industry. The nine-member board is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and includes licensed contractors, a state-registered architect or engineer, and three members of the general public. Members must reside in or maintain a principal place of business in Charlotte County, and contractor members must hold a current certificate of competency.

The CILB advises the Charlotte County Community Development Department and serves as the Board of Examiners for construction contractor licensing. It has authority over contractor licensing matters under county code and state law, including reviewing qualifications, conducting hearings, and addressing violations by licensed or unlicensed contractors. The Board may impose disciplinary actions such as fines, restitution, and related costs to ensure compliance and protect the public.
