🚿 Tile & Grout Are NOT Waterproof!
One of the biggest misconceptions we hear from homeowners is:
“My shower is tiled and grouted, so it must be waterproof.”
Not quite! ❌
Tile and grout are designed to handle moisture, but they are not your waterproofing system. Water can work its way through grout joints, corners, seams, cracks, and penetrations around fixtures.
So where does that water go?
👉 Behind the tile.
Without a properly installed waterproofing system, moisture can reach the backer board, framing, insulation, and other materials inside your walls. Over time, this can contribute to water damage, mold, deterioration, and expensive repairs—even when the surface of your shower still looks beautiful.
