Heaven gained an angel this week with the passing of Shirley Risk, beloved wife of Paul Risk and an integral part of the foundation of Paul Risk Construction.
While Paul is recognized as the company’s founder, Shirley served as CFO for the first 27 years and Paul is the first to say that he would have never survived in business without Shirley’s strength, wisdom, and intuition. Together, they built the company from its humble beginnings in their basement into an organization of 75 employees—always grounded in hard work, resilience, and shared vision.
Shirley embodied a true “Make It Happen” spirit. Whether hosting unforgettable dinner parties, selflessly relocating to Biloxi for two years to support Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, creating cherished summer memories with her grandchildren in Florida, or traveling the world, she lived life fully and generously—touching countless lives along the way.
In true Shirley fashion, she even announced her own retirement at a company function Paul didn’t attend, later joking that otherwise, he might have talked her out of it.
We are forever grateful for the foundation she helped build, the values she instilled, and the love she shared so freely with everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her legacy will continue to inspire all of us at Paul Risk Construction and beyond.
A Funeral Service will take place at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing at the church from 10-11 a.m. Private interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
