Going Native 📍 Warrensburg, NY

We are excited to be a part of this new native meadow project ~ not only are there native seeds sprouting in the side yard as we speak, but in the front yard, a low-mow, drought tolerant eco-lawn is starting to take root alongside pockets of colorful creeping thyme and creeping phlox.

Through the side yard fence is a garden for more than just the owner of the home, but a place for the community to enjoy as well. Which, we have to say, has been so supportive while have put the project together! We have gotten so many compliments and we are thankful to have worked in such a lively neighborhood.

We are excited to see this project grow and evolve. Stay tuned 📻

How does sustainable landscaping look different? We work to cultivate what plants are thriving on your site to create low maintenance, beautiful landscapes.

Take this lawn for example, which used to be quite the hillside to mow, a hillside that had no business being 100% lawn because it was never used to sit, walk, or play on.

The lawn was suffering, without the use of fertilizers and chemicals, because of its location so closed to the lake, it was nutrient deficient and dried out.

Now, the clients still have lawn to use for where they walk, but surrounding it is this amazing smelling, vibrate color from the creeping thyme and pineapple w**d!

We chose to cultivate what was working on site. Three years later, we have happy clients thrilled with their colorful hillside, and a healthy ground cover thriving in the place of dying lawn.

Ahhh Spring time, we made it 🌼 our endorphins have fully kicked in now that we are back outside everyday. We feel so lucky are we to be gardening in and around homes that have such amazing habitat already.

These Spring Ephemerals are a rarity, as they feed our pollinators early in the season only under moist, deciduous forest floors. Lasting only until the trees leaf out, if you can find them, they are indeed a special treat! Here you can see Bloodroot, Dutchmans’ breeches, Spring Beauty, and Blue Cohosh (not an ephemeral, but still so cool).

PRO TIP: leaf management around your home matters! Don’t pile leaves where these guys can’t pop up. Make sure there is just a layer of leaves to keep the soil moist.

As sustainable gardeners, we take away the leaves in the fall as they drop or pile them into one area to be managed (extra helpful for the bugs🐞). Blowing your leaves off your lawn and into the woods year after year will kill all the understory plants, driving the deer further into your garden as well!
